Opthamologist vs. Optometrist

I went to the Eye Doctor on Saturday morning. I had no idea I'd be coming out of it with grandma like shades...I didn't know it at check in time that this would be a very different experience from my previous eye exams. The first clue was there wasn't a machine that blew air into my eyes, there were eye drops...
I then realized I had my first official eye exam ever! I was seeing an Opthamologist not an Optometrist. Dr. Phan told me that it was so refreshing to see "crisp eyes." I came away feeling very good about my eyes. In fact I have a new confidence in the back of my eyes. They were perfect. It's nice to know something can be prefect, although I have 20/15 vision, which I'll be happy to live with. Thanks Doc for making me feel really impressed about my eyes. I think I'll stick with the Opthamologist.

FACTS...
Optometry is a health care profession concerned with eyes and related structures, as well as vision, visual systems, and vision information processing in humans.

Opthamology is a branch of medicine which deals with the diseases and surgery of the visual pathways, including the eye, hairs, and areas surrounding the eye, such as the lacrimal system and eyelids. The term ophthalmologist is an eye specialist for medical and surgical problems. Since ophthalmologists perform operations on eyes, they are considered to be both a surgical and medical specialty.

Fact: Many ophthalmologists will not give you a prescription for contact lenses and some will not even fit you for glasses. I agree that everyone should be checked at some point by an ophthalmologist but to have every one of your annual eye exams by an ophthalmologist is like going to an ENT for a strep test. I, however, must go to an ophthalmologist due to my wacky eye history but everyone else in the fam...okay with the ol' optometrist. Yay! for you with the perfect eyes!! I don't think any part of my body is perfect. O! I do like my toes okay.

way to go with the perfect eyes! I like my eyes too, however I am noticing it is a bit harder to see far away small print these days. Although not bad enough to need glasses :)
